Is it anxiety about being in an unknown situation? Is it nerves about “performing” in front of the camera? Is it this new, enthusiastic photographer ready to dive in? Could be any of number of things!
Whatever the reason, this experience is common! Not to worry, in addition to having tips to help entertain the kids (see last blog post here!), I have some information to help dad, or anyone, feel more comfortable while being photographed!
Things to Know Before a Photo Session:
- You will not likely be in front of the camera the whole time! During any type of photo session, whether it be maternity or family, I will be rotating who I am photographing throughout the session. This means that one person will not spend 100% of the time in front of the camera. There will be time to rest and hang out.
- We will likely be moving and playing! Especially if we are doing a photoshoot outside, we will likely be moving around throughout the session. I usually start with a few posed shots, but then most of the session involves exploring, playing, and just trying to let everyone’s genuine selves come out.
- You are not alone! A lot of people feel nervous being in front of the camera. When you do a photo session with me, I deliver a digital gallery where you and your family get to choose the photos you would like to keep! In other words, there is no pressure to have that perfect smile for each and every frame!
- I will be there to help guide you! I have a set flow for each session and will use prompts to help guide you and your family throughout the session as we photograph. One of the benefits of hiring a professional photographer includes not having to worry about directing the session, and getting to be a participant in what hopefully is a very fun session!
