Your story is important. You are important. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]For a few weeks before Aug 19th, I had been having small random contractions that were not painful. I was getting antsy because I was uncomfortable and hot and wanting to just get this baby out. My Dr’s appointments were getting more and more frequent but they were disappointing because I wasn’t showing much progress. On the day I went into labor, I had gone for a walk in the morning with my husband it proved to be a really difficult walk. We only went around the block but I was so slow and had to keep taking breaks. Around 11 am, I decided to take a nap. Just before 1 pm, I got up and was heading to the restroom when my water broke. Luckily, my husband had not left for work yet. He said to me “so…I shouldn’t go to work then?”. Haha! No honey, you should not go to work today. I immediately went into the restroom because when your water breaks, it sure is messy! Then, I started calling people, my mom, the dr, my mother in law etc.
Originally, I had been given the advice to labor at home for as long as possible but since my water broke, my doctor told me to come in asap. We still took our time since my contractions were bearable and we needed to gather our things. I figured I wouldn’t get to eat so my husband made me a peanut butter and chocolate chip (yes, that’s right) sandwich and some chocolate milk. Mama gets what mama wants. Haha. I ate that while making more phone calls and my husband grabbed all our hospital items. Then, we hit the road.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”3″ back_color=”color-lxmt” overlay_alpha=”50″ border_color=”color-uydo” border_style=”solid” medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/1″ css=”.vc_custom_1568175184500{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 10px !important;}”][vc_icon position=”left” icon=”fa fa-quote” icon_color=”color-wvjs” size=”fa-3x” text_lead=”yes”]Originally, I had been given the advice to labor at home for as long as possible but since my water broke, my doctor told me to come in asap[/vc_icon][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]My hospital was Huntington Hospital and luckily isn’t far from our house. We got there in about 15 minutes and we had pre-registered so all went smoothly. I had planned on not getting an epidural and even though every nurse asked me when I wanted one, they were all respectful of my choice. About 4 hours into hard labor though, I changed my mind. I thought contractions were supposed to be a few minutes apart but mine were non-stop and strong. I thought I would have time to breathe in between but that was not the case and so I gave in. The epidural process was not the best, the nurse and anesthesiologist we not the most friendly and shot the shit the whole time instead of talking me through anything. I was also not allowed to have anyone in the room with me while they did it so I was scared. The actually epidural was not that bad though and once it kicked in, it was great. Plus, the anesthesiologist did a really great job so I could still feel my legs and had some control but no contraction pain. Luckily, the first nurse on duty was at the end of her shift and the next nurse we got was wonderful. She kept my spirits up, explained everything really well and helped my labor move along. In fact, it went so quickly that when she checked me around midnight, I was fully dilated! She called the doctor and I started pushing. I pushed for maybe an hour and then the doctor was called again and we waited for her to arrive.
After she got there, I probably pushed for another 30 min or so and Wyatt was born! From start to finish is was about 12 hours. I think I am pretty lucky for that as I have heard of much longer labors that do not end as well. I did get an episiotomy which wasn’t exactly fun but it helped me out and although I got an epidural, I felt every bit of that baby coming out. He arrived at 2:07 am and was healthy 8 lbs 11 oz. 22 inches long. We opted for delayed cord clamping and during that time Wyatt rested on my chest and snuggled. It was awesome.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”3″ back_color=”color-lxmt” overlay_alpha=”50″ border_color=”color-uydo” border_style=”solid” medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/1″ css=”.vc_custom_1568175184500{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;padding-left: 10px !important;}”][vc_icon position=”left” icon=”fa fa-quote” icon_color=”color-wvjs” size=”fa-3x” text_lead=”yes”]About 4 hours into hard labor though, I changed my mind. Even though I wanted to try for natural birth with no epidural, I was still able to give birth naturally with no complications. I went in hoping for the best but not having expectations since I knew so much was out of my control. I feel lucky that it all went the way it did and I just hope the next one is as smooth.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h3″ text_size=”h3″ text_transform=”uppercase” text_italic=”yes” separator=”yes” separator_color=”yes” sub_reduced=”yes”]Written by: Elana[/vc_custom_heading][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
